Personally, I put travel into several categories.  Would never go back, thankfully there haven’t been too many of these!  Glad I went, but it’s now ticked off the list.  And finally, love it, I will return, sometimes several times. London, England’s capital is the latter for me.  I am lucky in the fact that I can reach the city from home by train in less than 2 hours.  Every time I visit, I look for another interesting area to check out and photograph.

My shot of the day was ‘Newton’ (Issac) by Eduardo Paolozzi.  Newton can be found by the British Library on Euston Road, near St Pancras railway station.   The statue is modeled on Blake’s ‘Newton’, from a series of twelve large watercolours produced in the mid 1790s.

Two of my other shots are taken from Holbourn Viaduct.  There isn’t a lot going on around here on a weekend.  However, a great spot to get some interesting photographs of the statues on the viaduct.  They represent Commerce and Agriculture on the south side by sculptor Henry Bursill.  Science and Fine Art live on the north side and are by Framer & Brindley.  There are further statues of William Walworth and Henry Fitz-Ailwin, both Lord Mayors.

Paternoster Vents, AKA Vents or Angel’s Wings was another interesting find while wander through Paternoster Square near St Paul’s Cathedral.  The vents are a stainless steel sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick and provide ventilation for an underground electrical substation.

I try and travel ‘camera light’ where I can these days.  Rather than taking my Nikon D7000, I took my Fuji X100T.  A very different way to shoot with the fixed lens, however, makes it interesting to get another take on subjects.

I hope my photographs either inspire you to visit London for the first time or to return and explore some new locations.
