Buenos Aires is Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital & the tango capital of the world where you certainly get some bang for your buck.

The city was impressive but if I had to pick a favourite spot, it would be La Boca home to the famous Boca Juniors Football Club with many famous players including Diego Maradona.  You can wander the colourful streets, watch the tango dancers and get some great food.

San Telmo is the colonial heart of Buenos Aires. Its quaint, cobbled streets buzz on a Sunday. Visit the plethora of stalls at the antique market, or eat and drink at the indoor food market. A great place for people watching.

In Plaza de Mayo you can witness stately 19th century iconic buildings including the striking pink presidential palace and The Metropolitan Cathedral.  The latter is where Pope Francis, as Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio, used to perform mass from 1998 before assuming office in the Vatican in 2013. You can also visit the mausoleum of General José de San Martín, Argentina’s most revered hero.  He led the country to independence in 1816.

And the pièce de résistance, Argentina steak is as delicious as they say! The locals eat around 65 kilos of beef per annum so it must be good. I’ve never had steak bought to my table then cut with a spoon to ask if it is cook to your liking! That is how good it is. La Brigada restaurant comes highly recommended if you find yourself in town. The Rutini wine is pretty good too.
