Country number 49 for me and Cluj, as the locals call it, is Romania’s second largest city & the capital of the Transylvania region.
Cluj-Napoca is home to many universities, stunning architecture, beautiful churches and landmarks dating back to Saxon and Hungarian rule.
In central square, Piața Unirii, sits the Gothic St. Michael’s Church. The dramatic Matthias Corvinus Statue of the 15th-century king is a sight you couldn’t miss if you tried. The Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral (Assumption Cathedral) is the most famous Romanian Orthodox church of Cluj-Napoca and a sight to behold. There are a plethora of interesting statues dotted around the city for you to check out.
If you are in town, look up Restaurant Roata which is hidden down a side street. Tasty authentic Romanian fare with excellent service, surroundings and atmosphere. The botanical gardens are well worth a visit too. Lol et Lola Hotel close to the heart of the city also comes highly recommended.
