Llyn Brianne is a man made reservoir in Rhandirmwyn, Carmarthenshire, Wales.  The area is also known as ‘Little Switzerland’, I can understand why when I visited by accident, the scenery is stunning.

Construction started in the late 1960s to regulate the flow in the River Towy.  A number of houses were flooded to make way for the dam and it is possible to see the top of the houses when the water level is low.

The spillway is a tourist attraction in its own right when the reservoir is spilling. The dam is the UK’s tallest at a 300ft (91m) high, and is the world’s largest clay core dam.  A fantastic place to walk or just a scenic drive around the lake, however, leave yourself enough time as it is 15 miles!
