I wanted to see more of life on the Mekong Delta when travelling with a camera from Vietnam to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. So I chose to take the boat which you catch from Chau Doc. Only use Chau Doc as a stopping point to get the boat, it isn’t worth a stop in its own right.
So another FUTA bus ride from Can Tho (£3.50, 120kms, 3.5 hours). I wouldn’t hesitate to use FUTA again, great service with a pit stop half way. Just make sure if you are going from a big hub, that you give yourself enough time to work out which is your bus.

Having read the reviews of carriers for the boat trip, they were very mixed and I was a bit hesitant. I chose to contact the cheapest, Hang Chau Tourist and was not disappointed.
Hang Chau were great on email and delivered my ticket to the hotel prior to my arrival – you pay when you get to the boat ($25). They also send a cyclo to collect you free of charge and take you down to the dock. that was an interesting ride! If you don’t have a visa they will help you obtain that also during the trip. There are 2 stops, one the Vietnam border point to leave and Cambodia to enter. My tip here, dont use the toilets at either! Use the boat facility.

The boat holds about 30 people, inside seats and benches at the rear. I chose the latter to get some shots with the Nikon. The distance is 130kms and it takes around 5 hours with the 2 stops. It is a noisy journey so you may wish to take ear plugs.

It was an amazing trip and the best way to say tạm biệt (goodbye) to Vietnam and suseday (hello) to Cambodia.
