Whitstable is famous for its native oysters. These were collected from Roman times until the mid 20th century. Whitstable Harbour remains fully working with several eateries selling fresh seafood including the Whitstable Oyster.

Here you can watch the fishermen set sail, wander the quaint streets and quirky shops or take a boat trip on a historic sailing barge, the Greta from 1892, which was used for transporting cargo on the Thames.

If you want a unique stay in town, you can rent a 150-year-old converted fisherman’s store hut right on the seafront. A great town to visit, however, it has become very popular, especially with visitors from London and comes with an increased price tag to other local towns.
