Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress, known as the Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames. The castle was also used as a prison from 1100 until 1952 – the Kray Twins were one of its occupants.

888,246 ceramic poppies have been progressively filling the Tower of London’s famous moat over the summer. They will end up encircling this amazing London landmark. It truly is a sight to behold. Each poppy represents a British military fatality during world war one – its centenary year.

The idea was created by Paul Cummins, a ceramic artist and theatre stage designer Tom Piper. Poppies are a symbol of remembrance in the United Kingdom.

It also gave me time to reflect on the sacrifices those who lost their lives made, including my great uncle, Henry Meredith.  A must to visit if in London this year.
