Since I have started publishing my photographs on line, I have spent time investigating more about the history / background of the subjects I shoot to either ‘keyword’ or write a description for the shot.

It is amazing what you learn. Next time you visit somewhere old or new, take a ‘google gander’ to find out some, no doubt, interesting facts you can share.

So, in this vein, some facts about this shot. During the First World War there was a large military camp at Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, England. This became the New Zealand Rifle Brigade base.   There was also a 1000 bed prisoner of war hospital. Both camp and hospital used this burial ground.

This cross is located at Cannock Chase War Cemetery. It contains 97 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, the majority New Zealand nationals, and 286 German burials. There are also 3 burials from the Second World War.
